What To Eat In Singapore Traveling As An Asian American

When we traveled to Singapore, we were filled with worries. Since we had no knowledge about the country/island-city, we thought the food may be too oriental/Asian for us, kind of along the lines of authentic Chinese or Vietnamese food. Even when I searched other blogs, my anxiety deepened because one of Singapore's delicacies was Turtle soup!

EEK!! Yeah, No Thanks. I will never eat Turtle Soup as long as I live. They said Hawker Centres were very common and popular, where they have several to-go places similar to our mall food courts, where you order various food and sit down at a round table and eat with your friends/family. Those did not seem appeasing to us either, just because we were not used to Oriental food. However, they did say to try Tian Tian Haianese Chicken Rice which is really good, so I really wanted to at a Hawker Centre next to the Buddhist tooth and relic temple in Singapore.

Every drink I had in Singapore was sooooooo good. How do they make them so amazing?! I know the portion looks so small but again, it was their last call and they only had drinks there. It was before we found out that other bars were open past their stated closing times. The same night, my sister was out drinking at multiple bars and she met us up at the lobby around midnight. We went to Adrift by David Meyers and they had amazing drinks as well! The bar had a club like atmosphere and the bartenders were dancing to the beat. I really do not know how they make their drinks taste so heavenly. Please teach me your secrets! We then went to this other bar and had a Japanese Rose Blossom which was also bubbling succulence.

We had a lot to drink that night... BUT we were having a great time after landing for the first time in Singapore. We had a blast. The buffet was super tasty as well the next morning, at the place they served us the Japanese Rose Blossom Tea. I recommend the fish ball soup. The miso soup was great, even though I felt bad that I spilled my first cup of miso on the carpeted floor. The fish balls were also delicious as well. We did stay in the hotel a lot since it was a major new hotel, symbolic of Singapore.

At the Hawker Center, I recommend the Tian Tian Haianese Chicken Rice even with the brutal summer weather and the super long lines. The other stuff next to it is not recommended. I had this Duck dish because I am impatient, but regretted not eating at Tian Tian. Do not make the same mistake!

Do try all the restaurants inside Marina Bay Sands. The hotel is tremendously big, has so many restaurants and cafes that are very competitive so the food will definitely be good! We had a Wagyu Burger at Adrift on the last night in Singapore, which melted in our mouths and was so juicy. The meat was super tender and perfectly sized. The wedges were hot and delicious as well.

A cafe I really enjoyed was the DC Comics Cafe in the Marina Bay Sands. They had a lot of DC characters like Aquaman, Batman, Catwoman, a lot of merchandise, and all their food was DC themed. We had a Batman coffee and ice cream and they were tasty and super cute.

Unfortunately, I did not take too many food photos because we were busy exploring around Clarke Quay, the Gardens By the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, and other places that we did not focus too much on dining for our Singapore trip. I do recommend eating at the top rated restaurants inside the hotel, and Tian Tian. Clarke Quay also has many dining and bar options, as well as a bar solely dedicated to beer pong. If you want to enjoy the music, make sure to check out Clarke Quay. I also recommend eating the fish ball soups. They may look unique to Americans but they taste so refreshing and wonderful. I really enjoyed the view from the infinity pool (the view worth a million dollars), and loved staying at the hotel. It was a luxurious experience I got to enjoy because of my boyfriend, and I hope I could go back one day again.
