The Cutest Themed Cafes In South Korea

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

1. Cafe Yeonnam-dong (2D Cafe) in Seoul

This Cafe was as cute as the photos, and everything was in 2D, even the coffee cups. I loved how the chairs, windows, everything inside the cafe was just all black and white and looked like a painting. It must have taken forever to decorate this whole cafe. However, one thing I did not like about this cafe was the amount of people inside. It was so overcrowded that it was ruining the experience for me. All the good seats were taken, it was a bit cramped inside, and the inner tables were reserved to bigger groups. The coffee was very interestingly citrusy, but I did not think the coffee was overly special. I think people go here for the atmosphere and for instagram photos mainly. There were people hopping around from table to table just to take photos and we thought it was a bit funny how everyone was doing this.

If you notice, the space is very cramped and there are lot of people packed in the cafe. If you want authentic 2D photos, make sure no one is there at the cafe except you! lol

The tray is not 2D so if you want a photo that is really 2D, take the tray out lol

Either way, this was a really cute cafe and I really enjoyed myself here with my mom. It is a bit out of the way though, because it is not really close to any subway stations and it is a straight walk down this path near a stream. There were other themed cafes in the area like Ryan cafe which was next to it. It was a bit empty though.

2. Hello Kitty Cafe

The Hello Kitty Cafe in Seoul, Korea is very very cute. I know that Irvine Spectrum went next level extra with the Hello Kitty Cafe (more in my LA themed cafes post), and definitely is better than the Seoul one. However, the Hello Kitty Cafe in Hongdae is the original pink cafe with everything Hello Kitty and pink inside the cafe. They even have a cute little photo booth that is only Hello Kitty themed. They print out your photo in a photo card and not a normal sticker picture. They went extra with the photo booth in my opinion. The coffees are definitely super pink and tasty, and the seats are all pink of course here too. It is worth a photo op if you swing by Hongdae next time!

3. Raccoon Cafe

This cafe is a bit sad if you look at the raccoons. Raccoons are supposed to sleep during the day since they are nocturnal, but they are kind of trapped inside this cafe with all these children torturing them. They like being fed but it is a bit inhumane, having them be trapped in the cafe for the whole day. A few are friendly and some just want to get their hands on people's items in their pockets or food. The raccoons are overfed and are not normal weight, and there is also a Siberian Husky in the same cafe which is very obese. If you want to go there to see raccoons I suggest you drop by once, but I did not really enjoy the cafe because I did not really like how the raccoons were being treated.

This white raccoon looked like he wanted to escape all the people and the torturous chamber he would be stuck in for life.

4. Aquarium Cafe

This cafe is super clean and awesome! I love all the fish tanks and how people can sit around them and enjoy coffee and have a chill time. The sharks, small fish, corals are all very well maintained and there is even a little cleaning section if you want to clean some algae off the glass. I liked how we went in on a rainy day to enjoy some lattes. I thought it would be a bit bigger but I still liked how they maintained the cafe on such a professional aquarium level.

The interior decorations were so beautiful, lattes were pretty delicious, and the sitting areas were very cute.

5. Ddong Cafe

Okay, this may not sound cute, but at least it is funny and very creative. This cafe is a bit out of your way in Itaewon, but the way up to the top floor of the poop cafe has a lot of vintage, flower, souvenir, and photo shops. We had fun looking at the ceiling floral decorations while going up to the top, buying these super small cute potted plants that were TSA friendly that you can take back to USA, and taking a photo after changing into a Korean traditional Hanbok with my sister.

The cafe itself was on the corner of the top floor, and it looked like a regular cafe. They sold various poop cushions, toilet mugs, and poop shaped cream puffs. We got a rose tea latte, a cream puff, and some lavendar tea. It was funny how the poop cafe served the rose lattes in a toilet bowl shaped mug. It was very cute and funny to me, but my mom said it was gross and she did not want to drink out of a toilet. LOL either way the latte was delicious and I loved going to the cafe, not just for the cafe but the pretty shops on the way.

I was too full to eat the poop shaped cookie outside of the cafe in the booth, but maybe next time!

6. Meerkat Cafe

This cafe was very very cute. You order a drink, then you can line up to touch the meerkats. It was very fun and more humane than the raccoon cafe, because the meerkats were treated very nicely and they took very good care of the cafe. They took good care of the meerkats and it seemed like they maintained the whole area very nicely. I loved touching the meerkats, and because the meerkats' behaviors varied from time to time, I was very intrigued by the way they were behaving towards us. The line allowed us to spend a lot of time around them and only allowed a few people in at one time. I loved that sometimes the meerkats would all group together and cuddle with one human, and they would all stand up together for no reason. They were very cute and I really recommend this cute cafe!

7. Thanks Nature Cafe

This cafe, also in Hongdae, is a bit small and only have two sheeps at one time, but the sheeps are big and the coffee is a lot more delicious than other themed cafes. Themed cafes don't have amazing coffees because they focus more on the animal or theme instead of the taste of the coffees, but this cafe has amazing drinks! I think they had this banana latte which was super amazing and other desserts that were tasty as well. The sheeps have names, they swap them out from time to time with other sheeps from the farm, and they are very friendly around people. They clean out the spaces so it doesn't smell either.

I think this one's name was Nala and she was so cute and friendly. Also very big for a sheep I have ever seen.

8. Sherlock Holmes Cafe (221B)

This cafe is not one of the cutest cafes in Seoul. I did not like this cafe at all because of how hard it was to get there. It said it was an easy walk from my air bnb, but I legit had to walk around for one hour to find this place from google maps because it was hidden in this corner. I asked people for directions and walked back and forth even though it should have taken around 20 minutes. When I got there, the cafe was not special at all and the service was horrible. They sold really nasty lattes, and they claimed to have spinning photos of Sherlock Holmes from the show but did not have it at all. It seemed like false advertising, or maybe I was missing something. I Just wanted to share this because I did not like this cafe and I do not recommend going here. No one was really at this place either, probably because it was not a great cafe.

9. Gdragon Cafe- Cafe Monsant

This one is not really themed, but it is such a cute cafe, and is also owned by the famous Big Bang's Gdragon (Kpop idol). The cafe is in Aewol, Jejudo Island, and the decorations inside are so interesting and beautiful. There is a huge flower that opens and closes, and there was supposed to be a $300,000 USD baccarat chandelier but some man bumped into it and broke it, so I could not see it. Thanks man. Anyway, the cafe was kind of narrow and had black painted walls, and the rain was dripping from the roof so it didn't seem as beautiful as it should have been. The coffee was tasty, was served in sleeves that were disco shiny silvery material and the cakes were delicious. I really liked the cakes and the flower. It is also next to this other cute cafe called Bomnal, which sells clementine juices with a lot of pulp. It is so delicious, sweet, and natural. Very organic and they have large sized glass bottles to serve you the juice. They also have corgis you can pet before going inside the cafe. Make sure to check these out!

I think this was a grapefruit vanilla cake, it was good. I wanted to visit this cafe forever because I am a big gdragon fan! I even brought this gdragon popup figure thing to take it but it was kind of overdoing it so I didn't bring it to the cafe lol.

Unfortunately it was raining so we could not see the corgis, but hopefully next time it will be sunny! Look at all that pulp though! I never had a clementine juice first of all, or an orange juice as tasty as this! It was the best citrus juice I have ever had. It looked like gold flakes were in there because it was so shiny.

The cute little cafe area that is where Bom Nal is!

The view from the GD cafe is amazing. The reflective building is also cute too. Look how blue Jejudo water is! I loved coming to Jeju and next time I will stay for more than just two days. I am in love with the island.
